Join us for a belated celebration of the birthday of our patron saint, Edgar Allen Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849).
The Poe Toaster was a mysterious bescarfed man in a wide-brim hat who used to leave three roses and a half-drunk bottle of cognac on Edgar Allan Poe’s grave in Baltimore each year on his birthday.
The decades old tradition of the Poe Toaster was declared “nevermore” in 2009, when the mysterious man stopped showing, likely DEAD!
The Sidecar on our Dead Poets Reading list, which contains Cognac is not only a homage to Poe but to this fervent fan like us!
For Edgar’s 2011 birthday, we cannot leave a bottle of cognac on his grave but we will toast to him with a new cocktail creating in his honor.
This cocktail is named after the protagonist in Poe’s “Cask of Amontillado”, which is not a story of the love of wine but of revenge! This bitter sweet cocktail will taste like sweet vengeance!
Looking for poetry readers! Pick a Poe’s poem and sign up to read it!
The Fortunato Cocktail is free for reader and half priced for attendees.
